Slightly Appreciated Hot Mess

Some think SAHM stands for "stay at home mom". No way. I say it is Slightly Appreciated Hot Mess.

Recently there have been quite a few instances where I have been made to feel like crap about staying at home with my kiddos. I have a big problem with this.

I breastfeed and I can't imagine having to go to a job and pump all the time. So, I'm not going to.

I enjoy getting up in the morning with my son and eating breakfast with him.

I love laying him down at nap time and they way he takes his thumb out of his mouth just to say "Love You"

I love when he wakes up from his mouth that he screams into the vent in his room "Mommy, Dadee (Davey, our dog)" and he is so excited when we go upstairs to get him.

I love eating lunch with him.

I love cloth diapering my daughter. I'm sure no baby sitter would want to wash out poop by hand at least 12 times a day.

I love watching The Lion King and Sesame Street.

I love getting to see every smile that my daughter makes.

I love wrestling with my son.

I love being able to make a good meal for my family at night and enjoying it with them.

I also love temper tantrums, poop spilling out of diapers, cleaning up a messy house a million times a day, and being puked on.

It's really not anyone's business why I stay home. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I enjoy my children and I'm not saying that Mom's who work don't. I'm just choosing not to be one for at least a year or so. So please, don't judge me because I stay at home.

  1. I know how you feel! People are always saying crap to me about staying at home and how im worthless, and a gold digger so to say because I dont work to help contribute...I've been a stay at home mom for almost 7 years, since the day des was born. with the exception of going back to school. I dont know why people feel the need to bring others down. This is what we chose to do..

  2. Brianne,

Just know that staying home with your kids is a "real job". It is also the most important job that you will ever do in life. Take pride in what you are doing because you are the greatest example that your children learn from. I used to beat myself up for staying home to raise Ben & Nat but I always hear how well-behaved my kids are. I know there were times that I needed to be working outside the home to help make ends meet but somehow we always made it. If you learn to live within your means it can be done. Sure, tanning & pedicures are nice, but those things took a backseat to "my needs". We put our children first and we came last. Don't ever doubt yourself for staying home to raise your children because it's the most rewarding thing you will ever do. I couldn't stand the thought that a sitter would tell my about all the firsts that my babies took. They only happen once, and they grow so fast! Hang on to every memory, take lots of pictures, hold them tight while rocking them to sleep, and know that they appreciate you even on the toughest days when you wish you had a little alone time! Also, carry the attitude that it's nobody's business if you choose to stay home or work. You only have one shot at raising your little ones and I wouldn't care what others think on the matter! True friends don't judge.

  3. Your amazing keep up the good work!! Being a mom is the most hardest work every, you can't explain it to a man, or any woman that doesn't have children! When people say stuff to me, my husband tell's them she DOES have a job she takes care of my children!!:) I love being a stay at home mom! My mom never worked a day in her life until my brother and I moved out! I take after her, my house it spotless, I cook, I take care of my kids to the max! Most the people that judge only want money, we live paycheck to paycheck but who care's i don't miss out on my kids lives! Anyways I'd say your a fabulous mother! Keep up the good work:):)

  4. my children are hypothetical at this point, but i can't imagine not staying home with them when i do have them. i've always planned to be a Slightly Appreciated Hot Mess, at least until i pack the little monsters off to kindergarten.

you've grown up so much since the by-gone days of grade school, and it's so cool to see you with spawn of your own.
